The auspicious day of Mahashivratri is falling on 13th February this year. However, at some places devotees will observe the festival on 14th February as the Chaturdashi Tithiwill last for two days this year.
Devotees worship Shivling with dhatura flowers and bilva leaves, which are said to be Lord Shiva’s most favourite ones. Along with these using sandalwood, honey, milk and water also pleases the lord.
However, there are certain things that you should never do during Mahashivratri, else these things can enrage Lord Shiva. Here’s what to avoid this Mahashivratri 2018:
Don’t Wear Black ClothesIf you want to please Lord Shiva and complete Shiva Puja the right way, do not wear black clothes on the day of Mahashivratri. It is believed that Lord Shiva doesn’t like black colour.
Don’t offer the following thingsLord Shiva loves white flowers but despite of this, you should never offer ketli flowers to him. Along with ketli flowers, the use of tulsi leaves and til is also considered inauspicious in Shiva Puja. You should never perform Jal Abhishek through a shankh(sea shell). The bilva leaves that you offer to shivling should be proper (not torn or incomplete) so should be the rice (white and not broken).
Don’t disregard peopleNever disregard these people – any elderly person, your siblings, life partner, parents, friends, scholars and just anybody in life, especially not during Mahashivratri. Disregarding people will never help you seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.
Don’t eat non-veg foodDo not eat any non-vegetarian food on the auspicious day of Mahashivratri. You should refrain from killing any living organism on this day. Consume satvik food.
Don’t sleep till lateEveryone should rise early on the auspicious day of Mahashivratri. The best time to perform Mahashivratri Puja is early in the morning.
Those who worship Lord Shiva with utmost devotion and a pure heart will be blessed with all their wishes coming true. Know how to please Lord Shiva on the day of Mahashivratri and seek his blessing
